Litchfield Country Club

Litchfield Country Club

Location 619 Country Club Drive
Pawleys Island, SC 29585
Rating 0 Stars

Opened in 1966, Litchfield Country Club’s continuing popularity has more than supported its longevity.

The reason is simple: Willard Byrd’s original design, one applicable to the well-rounded, won’t beat up most players. It also isn’t crafted toward the big hitters, measuring at less than 6,800 yards from the back tees. That’s how the golf course opened in the 1960s, and that’s how it remains over 50 years later. The dogleg-happy round includes significant bends on at least eight different holes, forcing players to make the most of their tee and second shots. After that, forgiving approach zones open up the possibility of bump-and-run golf and negating many of the issues associated with small greens.

Hole #18 is featured in the book “The 100 Greatest Holes along the Grand Strand” – published by The Sun News “Narrow fairways, sharp doglegs are part of this classic old style design.” – by Nick Nicholas, Sun News Golf Writer Litchfield Country Club was among the initial eight courses built on the Grand Strand. And it was the first course in the Pawleys Island/Litchfield area.

Awarded 4.5 STARS in Golf Digest’s “2008- Places to Play” and one of the “World’s 50 Best- 1996” by Conde Nast Traveler, the gracious charms of this exclusive country club “Signature Course” are enjoyed by only a limited number of visiting golfers. The mature tree-lined fairways wind amid the giant oaks and shimmering lakes of a former Carolina rice plantation, creating an extraordinarily challenging “country club” golf experience.

For obvious reasons associated with the lack of length, the course has been highly regarded by women and seniors.

Course design is good with lots of doglegs. Long ball hitters cant let it fly here.

  2. Marty 10/30/2023

Nice resort Course. The greens hold incoming shots well.

  3. Chris 10/07/2023

Difficult challenge with numerous doglegs with narrow fairways. Course is nicely kept. Lots of hazards which requires pinpoint accuracy overall.

Great old school course with great old oak trees and history.

Very good summer course conditions, greens rolled nice. Excellent customer service from the bag drop, golf shop, grill and outside staff. We were offered water several times while playing from the course ranger.... Enjoyable day.

I've played Litchfield twice since arriving 2/1 and to be honest it's a great value... Course conditions are good, greens good and the staff friendly. Is it my favorite track in Myrtle Beach? No.. but it's budget friendly and plays well so it's a great gap course between playing the more expensive places on my list. I have also been paired with some super-friendly folks on both visits making the rounds even more fun. Kudos to the LCC staff for making it possible to have my wife ride along... Its likely a low season thing but it helps keep the peace around the condo!

Very friendly staff. Always fun to play Litchfield Country Club as it puts a premium on driving accuracy. Nice conditions, challenging par threes (length).
